44x44” custom framed original oil on canvas. This piece took days and days of detail work, and the balance of realism with a more saturated, textured background is one of my favorite parts of what I do as an artist. My good friend Jordan Lefler has captured countless incredible photographs of moose, and this is the first of three paintings I intend to create inspired by his work.

About a month after my little brother passed away, my family gathered for our annual reunion. We were and still are carrying such deep grief that being surrounded by family who knew and loved him felt like the only comforting thing in the world. On the drive up, my mom spotted two baby moose playing in a field. We pulled over, and moments later their mother stepped out from the forest to stand close beside them. It felt surreal and strangely peaceful, like a quiet reminder of protection, love, and presence in the middle of the hardest time in my life.

That moment stayed with me, and eventually led me to paint this piece.

This painting has a beautiful custom reclaimed wood frame made by my grandpa, David Edgell.
